Santa Maria man sinks halfcourt shot for $35,000 at Lakers game

Travis Milne, a 27-year-old Santa Maria man, sunk a halfcourt shot for $35,000 in between the third and fourth quarters of the Lakers’ Sunday night win over the Phoenix Suns.

“Immediately after the game it was still kind of like, did it really just happen, it was surreal,” Milne said.

Milne, a computer programmer who works in Solvang, says he’s thinking about using the money to put a down payment on a home – calling this “life-changing money.”

“At first I was like, wow, I actually made it, it went in,” Milne said.

Several Lakers players noticed what had just happened.

“Nick Young kind of gave me a head nod, like come on over and gave me a high five, a bunch of the other players gave me high fives, it was great,” Milne said. “Once I got up there, got the ball in my hands, I knew how I wanted to approach it, how I wanted to release it.. and it worked out.

Milne’s no stranger to sinking buckets – he played two years of Varsity basketball at Pioneer Valley High School in Santa Maria.

“Probably just going to save it and use it for a down payment on a house eventually,” Milne said.

He says he’s not going anywhere.

“Definitely not looking to leave Santa Maria, family’s here, freinds are here, it’s a great neighborhood,” Milne said.
