Elderly man dies after being struck by vehicle in Oxnard

An elderly Oxnard man died after being struck by a vehicle early Saturday morning in Oxnard.

According to a press release from the Oxnard Police Department, at around 6:35 a.m. a black Honda Civic was traveling northbound on Saviers Road at Hughes Drive when it collided with an elderly pedestrian crossing the road from the east sidewalk.

The 80-year-old man was knocked down to the ground by the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, a 22-year-old Oxnard man, remained at the scene and did not suffer any injuries.

Emergency responders rendered aid to the pedestrian but he died at the scene.

Alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the collision. The investigation in ongoing.
