Wanted man holed up inside Santa Barbara home arrested

Santa Barbara police took a wanted man into custody Wednesday afternoon in Santa Barbara’s eastside.

At the start of the incident, 2:14 p.m., police set up a perimeter around a home in the 1000 block of E. Cota Street after investigating a report of a man possibly holed up inside the residence.

A gang suppression team was on scene assisting police officers.

Sgt. Harwood with the SBPD told NewsChannel 3 that officers were trying to locate a wanted suspect in a theft case when officers spotted the individual on the doorway of the Cota Street home.

It appears the suspect ran inside the home as officers closed in, and another individual who was in the home at the time of the incident was preventing officers from gaining entry inside. That person was also taken into custody according to a witness on scene.

No other details were immediately known.
