Local Cubs fan scores World Series memories
Bernie Baggarly wore a Cubs jersey to work at KJEE on Wednesday night.
After watching games 4 and 5 in Chicago with his brothers, he watched the final game on an old tube TV.
He was so nervous, he stood up and swayed from foot to foot during the early innings.
He sat down during the rain delay and put his head in his hands when things weren’t going the Cubs way.
But like a lifelong fan he never gave up.
“My Family is from Chicago, I’m the last of eight kids my grandparents everyone is a fan, it is in my DNA, I never had a choice,” said Baggarly.
Bernie said he paid $200 for his Saturday ticket and $700 for Sunday’s, a lot less than the $10,000 people paid for the final game in Cleveland.
He said he bought souvenirs and will never forget this series.
“This is the greatest game I have ever seen, as a Cub fans, as a fan of baseball, this is what it is all about. Two historic teams, with the two of the longest championships droughts and extra innings. It really doesn’t get better than that.” said Baggarly.
