Graffiti Crime Spree on Santa Barbara Mesa
A tagging crime spree left marks on homes, and business areas over the weekend.
At least six homes, a van and a shopping center sign and wall on the Santa Barbara Mesa were tagged.
Police say it appears to be the work of a loan tagger or graffiti crew and not a criminal street gang
The damage was done on Friday night or Saturday morning.
Investigators hope someone will recognize the handwriting or “alien Lem “moniker and give them a call.
Business owners said it’s not a welcoming site
Arash Javan, of Sam’s to Go, said “It is not appropriate for the people of this city. We like to keep it clean and nice and have a good image for the people that come visit Santa Barbara.”
Public Works posted standard notices to homeowners notifying them the city could help clean it up at the owner’s expense
The city prefers to have it removed within a few days because they say tagging attracts more tagging.
The damage from the black paint is estimated to be in the $3,600. range.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the police.
