Man cited for DUI after crashing van onto parked vehicle

A man was cited for driving under the influence after a van he was driving crashed and landed on top of a parked car in Santa Barbara on Saturday.

A neighbors’ surveillance video showed the driver of the Chevrolet van attempting to back into a parking spot on West Pedregosa Street at around 12:45 p.m. As the driver was backing into the spot, he collided with a parked car and then attempted to flee at a high rate of speed.

The driver attempted to turn onto Castillo Street but failed to navigate the turn. The van hopped up onto the curb, sheered a street sign and landed on top of a parked Lexus coupe.

When emergency responders arrived on scene, the driver of the van was still in the vehicle and required assistance getting out.

The man was taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital and treated for his injuries. He was released from the hospital on the same day.

Santa Barbara Police Department said the man was cited for driving under the influence.
