Two dead following head-on collision near Oxnard
Two people are dead following an early morning traffic collision near Oxnard on Saturday.
According to a press release from California Highway Patrol, at around 1:55 a.m. an Oxnard man driving a gray 2008 Toyota Camry northbound on Harbor Boulevard crossed into southbound traffic and collided head-on with a silver 2003 Toyota Camry.
The 33-year-old driver of the gray Camry became trapped as the vehicle became engulfed in flames.
Troopers from California Highway Patrol arrived on scene and attempted to extinguish the fire, but were unsuccessful due to the severity of the blaze. Ventura City Fire Department arrived on scene shortly after and extinguished the fire.
The driver of the gray Camry was pronounced dead by fire personnel on scene.
A passenger of the silver Camry, a 43-year-old Oxnard woman, was also pronounced dead by fire personnel. The driver of the silver Camry, a 44-year-old Oxnard man, suffered minor injuries and was transported to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment.
The names of the deceased have not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Ventura Area CHP Office and anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to call their office at (805) 477-4100.
