Body recovered from coast near Sycamore Cove Beach

A body was recovered from the ocean near the coast of Sycamore Cove Beach at the intersection of Dear Creek Road and Pacific Highway 1.

At around 10:45 a.m. Thursday, a lobster fishermen was operating his vessel when he discovered a body in a kelp bed in the water.

The fisherman contacted authorities, including the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office and the Ventura County Fire Department.

Los Angeles County Fire Department and the US Coast Guard also responded to the scene.

Crews were able to pull the body ashore where the subject was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the person’s death in currently unclear. A medical examiner took custody of the body and an autopsy will be conducted.

Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said the area was taped off for the investigation but no streets were closed and traffic was not affected.

The investigation is ongoing.
