Alleged Morro Bay arsonist arrested
Authorities arrested 43-year-old John Petitt in connection with two separate fires that occurred on Black Hill in Morro Bay State Park Tuesday evening.
Firefighters from several agencies were able to put out the two spot fires with hose lines and hand tools by 6 p.m., nearly an hour after the fires were first reported.
The fires broke out in thick chaparral and grass close to hiking trails on Black Hill. Fortunately, the fires did not threaten the state park, electrical infrastructure or the nearby mobile home park.
Petitt is facing two counts of arson.
