Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County Honors Cristina Ferrare

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County held it’s 8th annual Bags, Bling & Bubbly champagne luncheon at the Los Posas Country Club in Camarillo on Monday.

The nonprofit recognized Cristina Ferrare as the BBSVC’s Wise, Wonderful Woman of 2016.

Ferrare’s friend and makeup artist Christina Sullivan introduced her.

Fans from as far away as Arizona came to meet her in person.

Ferrare teared up as she talked about the mentoring done by Big Brothers Big Sisters year after year.

The former host of Hallmark’s Home & Family, and many other programs, recently found out she had Multiple Myeloma, a form of bone marrow cancer

She is also working with Maria Shriver on “The Women’s Alzheimer’s Challenge.”

Together they host Facebook chats where she has talked about her mother’s Alzheimer’s.

The former model and cookbook author is working on another book about foods that benefit brain health.

Ferrare’s daughter Arianna Thomopoulos applauded her mother. Thomopoulos created the lifestyle website; www.themoderndaygirlfriend.com.

Lissa Coffey and Richard M Burke emceed the Big Brother Big Sisters’ event that included a live and silent auction, a $5,000. raffle and bags and bling buy.

Little and big sisters Mia and Coral shared their special handshake.

All the proceeds from the event will benefit mentoring programs.
