Students honored for Fight Drugs poster contest

Students were honored at the Santa Barbara Courthouse for their Fight Drug posters. First place winner was awarded to second grade student, Diego Pacheco.

Students from all over Santa Barbara Unified School District participated in the poster contest. Awards were handed out to a student from each grade that designed a poster. This year’s slogan was, “Be Smart – Don’t Start.” Winning posters will be hung in the new children’s library at the Santa Barbara Library.

The Kids Fight Drugs Poster Contest is organized by the Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse. Their mission is to promote awareness about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse.

— Second Place: Mikayla Bohn, 5th Grade, Mountain View Elementary
— Third Place: Brianna Pacheco, Kindergarten, Isla Vista Rec. & Park

— 1st Grade: Alexa Herrera, Isla Vista Rec. & Park
— 2nd Grade: Brooke Spieler, Hope School
— 3rd Grade: Ella Richardson, Hope School

— 5th Grade: Makenna Stretz, Hope School
— 6th Grade: Catalina Lusk, Washington Elementary School
— 7th Grade: : Kelly Zamora, Isla Vista Rec. & Park
