Charity bike event rides through Santa Barbara

Hundreds of people peddled for a good cause in Santa Barbara Saturday morning.

The Santa Barbara 100 open course ride started early Saturday at Leadbetter Beach.

Cyclists endured grueling climbs and fast descents through the streets and hills of the city, including an ascent up Gibraltar road.

The money raised benefits local charities including the Family Assistance Fund at Cottage Hospital.

The fund helps support families facing financial hardships related to their child’s medical costs.
