New Noise Festival becomes a Funk Zone block party
You will see some local favorites and many new music acts on stage at the annual Santa Barbara New Noise music festival.
It begins tonight with a $9.92 show at the Velvet Jones nightclub downtown.
Saturday and Sunday there will be a full scale stage and a two day block party on Gray Avenue in the Funk Zone.
Jeff Theimer with New Noise has brought together a variety of musicians that are both established and rising stars.”And what I try to do is curate around the headliners and the nationally touring acts and try to pair them with the local stuff and regional stuff. “
Over the years, some of the performers here have received national show schedules and press coverage in major publications along with large newspapers including the Los Angeles Times.
“If people can walk away and seea headliner or go because a friend told them to or because it is the Funk Zone I know they will say ‘ that band is rad'” said Theimer.
The performance schedule has over 15 bands including the Mad Caddies (Santa Ynez), the Upbeat (Carpinteria-Santa Barbara), STRFKR (Portland) and Night Riots ( Los Angeles.)
Three day wrist bands offer music lovers a bargain price for the events, at under $15. a day.
This year there’s also a custom t-shirt featuring the iconic Santa Barbara Mission with a jolt of music energy coming out of it.
