Investigators are looking into what caused a Summerland home to catch on fire Wednesday night.
Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection firefighters responded to a power surge for a home on Whitney Avenue after 7:00 p.m. As a few firefighters went into the home to check the situation, a firefighter sitting inside the fire engine noticed a fire at a house across the street.
“The guys quickly responded and immediately started attacking the fire,” said Richard Evans, Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District’s fire investigator.
The owner of the home that firefighters initially responded too declined to talk on camera.
Evans was on scene last night. He said there were embers flying everywhere because the wind was howling.
There were 75 firefighters on scene and fire engines were placed on every as a precaution.
