3rd district supervisorial candidates debate in Isla Vista

Two candidates vying for the 3rd District seat on the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors will square off in Isla Vista on Thursday.

Joan Hartmann and Bruce Porter received the most votes in the June primary election. They are competing to replace Doreen Farr. She has held the position since 2008. Farr is not running for re-election.

UC Santa Barbara student journalists will ask the candidates questions and ask them to share their thoughts on important topics facing the 3rd District and Santa Barbara County.

The 3rd District covers a large and diverse geographic area, including Isla Vista, Goleta and the Gaviota Coast, Guadalupe and the Santa Ynez Valley. With over 23,000 residents, many are college students, the Isla Vista community can influence election results.

The October 13th debate is presented by KCSB 91.9 FM, the community radio station at UC Santa Barbara, The Bottom Line and The Daily Nexus. The debate will take place in Isla Vista Theater 2, at 960 Embarcadero del Norte. The debate begins at 7 p.m. with a reception starting at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free, but seating is on a first come-first serve basis.
