New affordable housing in Goleta will offer $700 rent
New affordable housing will be available next year in Goleta with rents as low as $700 a month.
People’s Self Help Housing has partnered with Comstock Development on a site where 465 units in total are being built. 70 will be in the affordable range.
The site off Los Carneros and Highway 101 is tucked behind some industrial buildings. But it will have park space, a basketball court, bike trails, and meeting rooms.
Comstock is building both the market priced homes and the affordable units. Workers will be on both properties back and forth which makes the development more efficient.
John Fowler with People’s Self Help Housing saID the agreement for the workforce and affordable units was part of a city approval project on three acres of the site. The city says it’s a perfect fit for the land, zoned as housing about a decade ago.
It’s also in a showcase site for the City Council members as it sits right across from their offices on the eastern side of the street.
Work is underway on the large housing project now. Within a month, a Comstock developer said “we’ll be stirring up some dust” on the affordable housing project.
Next year, People’s Self Help Housing will also have new affordable housing projects underway in Templeton and Santa Maria.
