Cal Fire schedules prescribed burn
The Department of Forestry and Fire Protection or Cal Fire will conduct a 75 acre prescribed burn on Wednesday, October 12.
The burn will be located 9 miles northeast of Pozo and 12 miles northwest of California Valley. Cal Fire reports local ranchers are cooperating with the burn which will include 5 fire engines, 2 hand crews and one bulldozer.
The purpose of the prescribed burn is to reduce hazardous vegetation in an area that is prone to large wildfires. It will also improve range quality for livestock and wildlife.
People in the area and drivers on Highway 58 may see smoke from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Traffic along Pozo Road 3 to 5 miles southwest of Highway 58 may be delayed.
If the weather conditions are not desirable, the burn will be postponed.
