Early voting begins for election

For the first and very anxious voters, the timeline has begun for them to cast their ballots in person at a county elections office. Vote by mail ballots will be out this week, and those can also be finished and mailed quickly.

Some voters just couldn’t wait. They have arrived in person at the Santa Barbara County Elections office, requested their ballot, filled it out in a private room and turned it in.

Dave Newton will be thousands of miles away on November 8 when ballots will come in by the millions across America. He finished at the elections office and told NewsChannel 3 , “they said come up starting on Monday, they print off the ballot right there on the machine and take it in just like a regular voting room – knock all your boxes off , put it in an envelope sign it .”

It’s a thick ballot but he did his research ahead of time.

“I looked at everything in the last 60-90 days did my research on the web, talked to friends and so forth,” said Newton.

On his break from Army duties, Logan Michael double checked that his paperwork was accurate. “So I got my voter registration card a week and a half ago. I wasn’t positive I had a vote by mail coming. I just came here to check. My mom was making sure she had a vote by mail coming too, ” said Michaels.

One resident had election materials for his 85 year old wife who hasn’t registered because she was worried about also being called for jury duty. Benjamin Burns convinced her to vote in this election.

Christine Milne said she wasn’t going to miss this election. “Are you kidding. There’s too much at stake. Way too much at stake!”
