Fire destroys mobile home in Atascadero

A mobile home was destroyed Friday afternoon by a fire in Atascadero. The fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. on Catalina Street. Fire crews are mopping up to make sure the fire is completely out.

Firefighters on scene say this home is a total loss. Witnesses say that the elderly man who lives here may have been smoking a cigarette and fallen asleep.

This home is off of Pinewood Court and Catalina Streets. That man who lives here was rushed to the hospital with unknown injuries. Officials said he did try to put this fire out on his own before neighbors called 911.

The official cause of the fire is under investigation. It’s unknown if the man has homeowner’s insurance.
