Santa Maria police arrest suspect in Motel 6 stabbing

Santa Maria police have arrested Ashley Powell, 24, a suspect in a Motel 6 stabbing on Oct. 2.
Police took Powell into custody on Oct. 3 acting on a tip from a resident that had seen Powell’s photograph soon after authorities released it to the public.
Officers located Powell in the 200 block of S. Nicholson and were able to arrest her without incident.
The knife attack occurred shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Motel 6 located at 1007 E. Main Street. One of the motel’s employee received medical treatment after suffering two non-life threatening stab wounds during the confrontation with Powell.
Powell faces an Assault with a Deadly Weapon charge, according to the Santa Maria Police Department.

Santa Maria police have identified the woman arrested for a stabbing that left a motel employee wounded.
The incident occurred around 10 p.m. Sunday at the Motel 6 located at 1007 E. Main Street.
Police said the Motel 6 employee was stabbed twice after a confrontation with Ashley Powell. The victim’s injuries are described as non-life threatening.
Powell was arrested shortly after her image was released to the public. A citizen spotted her on the 1000 block of E. Main Street. Officers caught up with her on the 200 block of S. Nicholson where she was taken into custody. Detectives have not tracked down the weapon that was used.
