Santa Barbara County firefighters extinguish brush fire on Chumash Reservation

Santa Barbara County firefighters responded to a brush fire in a field near the intersection of Sanja Cota Avenue and Kalawa Shaq Road on the Chumash Reservation.

The fire was first reported around 5:08 p.m. Monday evening.

According to Santa Barbara County Fire Captain Dave Zaniboni, crews discovered powerlines on the ground in a field which caused three spot fires.

The fire burned up to 2 acres and smoke was seen from Highway 246 and Refugio Road.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m. Zaniboni said that the fire was contained and forward spread had stopped, but crews would remain on scene to perform mop up in the area.

Six engines, two dozers, one water tender and a fire crew responded to the brush fire. A helicopter performed multiple water drops before dark.

No structures were threatened by the blaze and no injuries were reported.
