Elderly Oxnard man identified in fatal collision with transit bus

Oxnard Police Department has identified the man killed in a traffic collision with a Gold Coast Transit bus Saturday afternoon.

The man has been identified as Raul German Vargas, 85, of Oxnard.

Investigators from the Oxnard Police Department determined that Vargas was on the sidewalk as the bus slowed down and approached a bus stop on Saviers Road. Vargas stumbled into the roadway and underneath the right side of the vehicle.

Emergency responders attempted to administer aid to Vargas, but Vargas succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident.

The collision is still under investigation, but alcohol or drugs are not believed to be factors.

Oxnard Police Department is investigating a fatal incident involving one pedestrian and a Gold Coast Transit bus.

The call was reported at around 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Oxnard near Saviers Road and Yucca Street.

Some lanes on Saviers and Bard Road were closed and motorists are advised to take an alternate route.
