Police officers give bar patrons a chance to test their blood alcohol content levels
Santa Barbara Police officers walked the town on Friday night. A sergeant and three officers went into two drinking establishments in the city to interact with the patrons.
One of their stops was Figueroa Mountain Brewing Company in the Funk Zone. The business’ general manager, Dan Mazur, coordinated with the police department to help educate his customers.
“Besides wanting to be in good standing with the police, we want to make sure our patrons are safe all the time, well educated about how alcohol can affect you,” said Mazur.
Officers went through the business and talked to patrons. The goal is to educate people about drinking responsibly and getting home safely.
“We’re pretty much asking people how much they’ve had to drink. Do you think you’re okay to drive? Then we give them a chance to test that perception,” said Sergeant Mike Brown, from the Santa Barbara Police Department.
Brown and the officers administer a breath test to any volunteers. It’s a way to positively interact with the community and educate patrons.
