Ventura Offers Rebates For Tearing Out Turf

Many people are doing everything they can to save water, and now some local cities are even offering incentives to customers who do their part.

The City of Ventura just opened up the application process for this year’s Water Wise incentive program.

The program gives rebates to homeowners who remove their turf and replace it with water-efficient landscaping. The program offers rebates of $2 per a square foot of turf removed for eligible residential projects. Homeowners may receive up to a $3,200 rebate per home. Commercial properties or homeowners associations may receive up to $6,400. All rebates will be accepted on a first come first served basis, and will expire when funding runs out.

Last year the program was very popular. More than 330 Ventura residents participated, tearing out 357,000 square-feet of turf and yielding a water savings of approximately 50 acre-feet per year.

The application process is done online for more information go to www.removeyourturf.com or call (866) 983-9232.

The city is also offering weather based irrigation controllers, and free high efficiency sprinkler nozzles to those that qualify. Go to www.freesprinklernozzles.com to fill out an application.
