Two County Pursuit Ends in Fiery Car Crash and Arrest of Ventura Man

A stolen car chase ended in Oxnard Tuesday with a fiery crash. California Highway Patrol officers were chasing a white Toyota sedan with paper license plates for more than an hour.

The pursuit started when Ventura City Police tried to stop the car on Telegraph Road, after the driver went through a stop sign.

The suspect got onto the westbound Highway 126 at Victoria. then merged onto northbound Highway 101.

CHP said the driver reached speeds up to 115 miles per hour. The chase went northbound on Highway 101 through Santa Barbara.

Once the car reached Winchester Canyon area in Goleta, the driver turned back onto the southbound side. Eventually one of the tires blew, possibly from various spikes strips laid down by CHP officers.

The car also reportedly hit a spike strip near Ventura.

It was traveling on its rims until it crashed.

The pursuit ended in a fiery crash on the southbound Highway 101 near the Vineyard exit in Oxnard.

The driver escaped the flames and was arrested.

CHP said this car did match a description of a stolen car from Santa Barbara last week. It is unknown if firearms were in the car. A pop or small explosion was heard after the crash while the vehicle was burning.

The suspect was identified late this afternoon as 35 year old, Jason Fenstermacher from Ventura.
