ORIGINAL STORY:
The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department says a young man’s body was discovered at about 12:15 Tuesday afternoon by a local hiker near a trail next to the radio tower along Highway 1 and the Highland Drive entrance to the Cal Poly campus.
The Sheriff’s Department says the victim is a white male adult in his early 20’s.
While foul play is not suspected, investigators have not yet determined how the young man died. The Sheriff’s Department says no identification was found on the man’s body.
Anyone with information on the young man’s identity is urged to call the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department at (805) 781-4550 or Crime Stoppers at (805) 549-STOP, (805-549-7867).
The discovery of the man’s body comes just days after the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI conducted a high-profile excavation at Cal Poly for possible remains of former student Kristin Smart who disappeared on campus more than 20 years ago.
Laboratory testing is being done on “items of interest” found during the dig last week to determine if they are human or animal remains.
