Mammoth Skull Discovered at Channel Islands National Park
An amazing find at Channel Islands National Park. A team of scientists have discovered a well preserved fossil of a complete mammoth skull.
The skull was revealed from inside an eroding bank on Santa Rosa Island.
Scientists say this find is extremely rare and very important because it appears to have been on the Channel Islands around the same time as humans.
Samples taken date back to thirteen thousand years ago. The fossil will be named Larry after Peter Larramendy–a biologist who discovered the ivory tusk sticking out of the ground back in 2014.
The mammoth’s final destination will be the Santa Barbara museum of natural history where it will be preserved and studied.
