Glow in the Park Brightens Up Funding for Doctors Without Walls
The Glow in the Park fundraiser Saturday night at Santa Barbara’s Elings Park brought out a sold out crowd of about 300 people to raise money for Doctors Without Walls.
The organization provides outreach efforts for the homeless with a street medicine team. They also have a mobile medical unit supplied with necessary medical supplies to routinely treat those in need they come across on the street and in both Alameda and Pershing Parks. Doctors and volunteers stop there regularly.
The work by medical professionals, and pre-med students prevents costlier emergency room treatments.
The evening was highlighted not only by colorful and adventurous tethered hot air balloon rides, but also a lively auction hosted by Andrew Firestone. Among those speaking about the cause were Board president Paul Jaconette,Executive Director Maria Long, and Emergency Physician, Jason Prytowsky. Helping with the announcements and presentations were media personalities Catherine Remak, Lin Aubuchon and John Palminteri.
Pre dinner entertainment was provided by the Bryan Titus Trio and freestyle guitarist Bruce Goldish.
The La Boheme Professional Dancers emerged with a few high stepping routines that had the crowd cheering just in time to hit the dance floor for the U2 cover band “Hollywood U2” for a two hour set.
