Two dead after car discovered off Gibraltar Road

A paraglider spotted the wreckage of a single car crash that left two people dead off Gibraltar Road on Sunday, but it is not clear when the crash happened.

Santa Barbara County Fire Capt. Dave Zaniboni said the Honda went over the side and down about 500 feet near the 5400 block of Gibraltar Road The victims were thrown from the car.

Zaniboni said no one else was in the car.

A paraglider spotted the car around 3:30 p.m. and reported the accident. The license plate matched a missing car out of Lompoc.

Los Padres Forest Service officials and the Santa Barbara County Search and Rescue team used rope systems to recover the bodies from the side of the mountain.
