Mike Pence Compares Trump to Reagan
Donald Trump’s running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, is on a fundraising tour in California. On Thursday he made a stop at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley.
More than 700 people attended the event, the crowd included some local students but the majority of people in attendance were lifelong Republicans and members of the library.
Instead of being a campaign rally,Pence took the opportunity to talk to the loyal Reagan fans about how Reagan and Trump have a lot in common. Pence also talked about how Reagan is the reason he switched from Democrat to Republican.
“Ronald Reagan’s example informed my entire political life and informs it still. His ideals inspired me to leave the party of my youth and become a Republican like he did,” said Pence.
The Indiana governor says he believes Trump is very similar to the former president and that a vote for Trump would bring the Reagan ideals back into the white house.
“Those Reagan principals still work when you put them into practice and I can promise you, it is exactly the kind of leadership, that Donald Trump is going to bring to Washington D.C. when he is elected president of the united states,” said Pence.
Pence acknowledge that Trump and Reagan have two very different styles but said they also had similar characteristics
“Ronald Reagan spoke the truth, to the American people just like Donald Trumps has,” said Pence, “Their honesty and toughness and a belief in the time honored principals that have always made America great and strong,” said Pence.
Many of the loyal Republicans in attendance agreed with Pence’s comparisons and comments.
“I do think they are similar in like Governor Pence said. Similar in their belief and love for the country and Americans. He actually made me feel even better about Donald Trump than I did when I came here, so that is a plus,” said Hugh Watkins of Martinez, California.
“I thought he was phenomenal and he is definitely going to be presidential material after he is our vice president and I can see the comparison,” said Lois Glabb of Camarillo.
Mike Pence is now heading to Bakersfield for another fundraiser.
