Santa Barbara’s Kayla Day Upsets Brengle at US Open

What a US Open debut in the main draw for Santa Barbara sixteen year old Kayla Day.

Day defeated fellow American Madison Brengle 6-2, 4-2 as the 26-year old retired due to an arm injury.

The Santa Barbara teenager qualified for the US Open by winning a tournament in San Diego and she kept it rolling in New York. Ranked 426th in the world, Day was 5-for-5 in break chances against the 48th ranked Brengle.

Day is the #1 ranked 16-year old in the United States.

She plays the winner of the Keys/Riske match.
