LA Strike Team in Right Place to Help Douse Brush Fire

Santa Barbara County firefighters got some unexpected and welcome help Monday afternoon as they raced to douse a brush fire that broke out next to Highway 101 along the Solomon Grade, north of Los Alamos.

A 5-engine “strike team” from the Los Angeles area had been released from the Chimney Fire in northern San Luis Obispo County. As the team headed toward home, it was in the right place to be able to assist local firefighters in limiting the progress of the fire to only 1/4 of an acre.

A Santa Barbara County Fire helicopter also dumped water on the flames, helping to quickly extinguish the blaze.

The fire was first reported at 3:00 p.m. Monday and was doused in less than an hour. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
