Bishop Diego Football Figures to Soar Again
Winning double-digit games in a high school football season is tough. Doing it for five straight seasons is special and that’s what Bishop Diego has become, a special program.
The Cardinals enter 2016 with an overall record of 55-9 since 2011.
Despite low enrollment numbers, the Cardinals continue to win games against the bigger schools. Last they picked off Newbury Park and Palmdale in the playoffs before losing to eventual champion Camarillo in the CIF Division III playoffs.
In 2016 the Cardinals will lean heavily on junior star John Harris. They don’t have quite the depth they have had in years past at running back so Harris will have to carry the majority of the load which should not be a problem. The 6’2, 205 pound back has breakaway speed and can certainly run between the tackles.
Bishop returns most of their starters on the offensive line and are expected to start junior David Gladish at quarterback.
The Cardinals are a junior heavy squad but players such as linebacker Ashton Borgeson started as a sophomore so they have plenty of game experience.
Bishop Diego opens the year at Righetti on Friday, August 26 at 7pm.
