Chimney Fire Forces Closure of Hearst Castle

The raging Chimney Fire in San Luis Obispo County has forced the closure of an iconic landmark.

On Saturday, the California Department of Parks and Recreation announced Hearst Castle is closed and tours are canceled. The visitor center remains open, for now.

Hearst Castle is one of the structures threatened by the Chimney Fire which broke out on August 14 at Lake Nacimiento.

CAL FIRE says the fire burned over Rocky Butte Ridge overnight. By Saturday morning, the fire was estimated to be 3 to 4 miles away from Hearst Castle.

Fire conditions will be monitored to determine when Hearst Castle will resume tours.
