12-Year-Old Airlifted to Hospital After Truck Crash Near Los Alamos

A boy is recovering in the hospital after a car crash near Los Alamos. Santa Barbara County Fire Department officials said the accident happened just after 12 p.m. Monday on the northbound side of Highway 101 north of Palmer Road.

Officials said a man in his 50’s was driving his pick-up truck northbound and crashed for unknown reasons. The only other passenger in the car was the driver’s 12-year-old son. When emergency crews arrived on scene, the father and son were already out of the wrecked truck.

The boy did complain of moderate to major injuries. He was transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital via CalStar helicopter.

The northbound side of the freeway was shut down for about five minutes to allow landing of the helicopter and loading of the patient.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by California Highway Patrol.
