New Season, New Challenges For Scorpions

The Camarillo football team is coming off a historic football season going 15-0 before having their season come to an end at the State Championship game. This season the Scorpions have new challenges as they enter into a new league with a bunch of new players.

Back in December Camarillo’s magical run and undefeated season came to an end at the CIF Divison 2 AA State Championship Bowl when they fell to Del Oro 16-13. Despite the loss the scorpions made history becoming the first team in the county to go 15-0 as well as setting county records for points and yards in a season.

“You know we have taken our time to enjoy it and I think you really need to do that,” said head football coach Jack Willard. “But this year is a new season. People are fighting for jobs. It’s not an experience team as it was last year. We graduated a ton of great players that were seniors.”

Willard also says they had to replace the entire defense, but there’s some good news.

“First off we can hang our hat on our offensive line,” said Willard. “We are returning 4 or 5 really solid lineman who played a lot last year.”

Running back Aaron Lamb is back as well as backup quarterback Jake Moss who played for Jake Constantine in the semifinal playoff win over Bishop Diego. He will have some competition in that position. Jonathon Hugo, a transfer from Carmel High School, is also fighting for the job.

A new member to the football team is expected to contribute right away. Jonah Cottrell is Camarillo’s standout point guard on the basketball team, and this season he is hoping to add just as many moves on the football field as he has on the basketball court.

On top of a new roster Camarillo is also entering into a new league. This season the Scorpions will play in the Marmonte league.
