Nwaba 11th After Day 1 at Olympic Heptathlon

After a slow start, 2012 UCSB graduate Barbara Nwaba is currently in eleventh place after day one of the Olympic Heptathlon.

Nwaba was 22nd after the first event, the 100m hurdles. She clipped the final hurdle in the race but managed to stay on her feet.

She had a solid high jump but really climbed the standings after an outdoor personal best throw of 14.81 meters in the shot put.

But she went from ninth to eleventh place after the 200m race.

There are still three more events on Saturday, the javelin, the long jump and the 800m race.

Nwaba, who represents the Santa Barbara Track Club, is making her Olympic debut and plans on competing in 2020 in Japan at the next Olympics.
