Balderas Loses Olympic Quarterfinal Fight

Carlos Balderas lost his lightweight quarterfinal boxing match at the Olympics to Cuba’s Lazaro Jorge Alvarez by unanimous decision 30-27.

The southpaw Alvarez won a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics and the 25 year old used his experience to defeat Balderas who is a recent Santa Maria High School graduate.

Balderas thought he had knocked down Alvarez but the referee ruled it a slip.

The pride of Santa Maria leaves Rio de Janeiro without a medal but he made a terrific showing winning his first two fights.
