Santa Barbara Zoo Welcomes Baby Masai Giraffe

The Santa Barbara Zoo announced the arrival of its newest family member on Saturday, a baby Masai giraffe!

Zoo workers have named the big baby Parker, after a family who made a major donation to the zoo. Parker’s mom, Betty Lou, gave birth to the calf after 45 minutes of labor.

The new calf stood 50 minutes after being born and was nursing 30 minutes after standing, according to the zoo Facebook page.

Veterinarians say Betty Lou and Parker are doing well. Zoo officials announced on Monday via Twitter, that the calf is a boy.
