Fiesta officially begins Wednesday, but some people began cracking cascarones earlier in the week.
“It’s tradition and we get the shell of the egg and fill it with confetti. Then glue paper on it and just paint them and kids love these because they can crack it on the head and have fun with them,” said Karla Navarro, makes cascarones.
The Navarro Family are regulars at the Upper Mercado at Mackenzie Park in Santa Barbara. Their grandmother started the family tradition. Since then, the Navarro’s has made it a family affair to make, prepare and sell the confetti eggs each Fiesta.
Karla Navarro is a granddaughter in the family. She says each egg takes a minimum of 15 minutes to make.
