Far Western Tavern in Orcutt Shows Support for Local Law Enforcement
The Far Western Tavern in Orcutt is showing their support to local law enforcement.
On Thursday, manager, Shelly McKinney, went around to different law enforcement departments to say “thank you” for all they do.
McKinney says, “they stand up for us everyday and right now they need us to stand up for them.”
She went with pastries to the Santa Maria Police Department, the Santa Barbara Probation Department, the California Highway Patrol and the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department in Santa Maria. McKinney says this is her way of giving back and showing officers that the Far Western Tavern supports them.
“It feels fantastic it restores faith in us,” says Rando Calahan, a Deputy with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department. He says gestures like these mean a lot to law enforcement officers. This all happening just one day after Santa Maria Police shot and killed a man after they say he lunged at them with a large knife.
“Without the community, we need their support, its important for us to be effective in our community,” says Deputy Calahan.
McKinney says when officers eat the Far Western Tavern they will be given a 10% discount from their bills, as a sign of appreciation for their work. “We hope that the other local businesses will follow suit even down to our civilians by waving, saying hi, saying thank you on a daily basis,” she says.
McKinney says she plans to go to other agencies tomorrow to extend her gratitude to them as well.
