Sheriff: Reports of Shots Fired in Santa Barbara’s Mission Canyon Unfounded

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department confirms the call placed to 911 reporting shots fired in 1100 block of Edgmound Drive is false and unfounded.
Kelly Hoover with the Sheriff’s Office told NewsChannel 3 that a person called 911 at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday to say he was being shot at.
Authorities made contact with the caller and are working to determine if this may be a person suffering from a mental health issue. This person has not been identified by law enforcement.
No injuries were reported and no arrests have been made in this incident.

ORIGINAL STORY
Law enforcement personnel with the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Department, Santa Barbara Police Department and CHP are currently on scene of a possible suspect with a gun investigation in the 1100 block of Edgemound Drive near Montrose Place in the community of Mission Canyon.
Reports of shots fired were called in to 911 just before 3:30 p.m.
The SWAT team was also dispatched out to the scene. A Sheriff’s helicopter is assisting with the incident.
At least one resident has been evacuated from their home, according to emergency traffic radio.
A reverse 911 was sent to area residents that in part read, “This is the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department. We are responding to reports of a man with a gun…the Sheriff’s Department requests you stay indoors until the situation is contained.”
The California Highway Patrol has road closures in effect in the immediately area.
