75-year-old Mary Karacas was arrested Sunday evening in Simi Valley for allegedly shooting and killing the man she had a long standing relationship with, according to police.
The homicide occurred in the 6200 block of Anastasia Avenue. Police were dispatched to check the welfare of an unconscious man just after 4 p.m. Once on scene, officers contacted the reporting party who led them to a bedroom where police discovered the victim’s partially covered body.
Homicide investigators determined 84-year-old Salavatore Orefice had died from gunshot wounds.
Police say Karacas arrived home while investigators were still processing the crime scene, and eventually confessed to the killing. Police say Karacas told them the victim got shot during an altercation.
She was booked at the Ventura County Main Jail on murder charges.
This is the first homicide in Simi Valley this year.
