Perla Batalla Performs At CSUCI

Cal State University Channel Islands kicked off what could become a series on Friday night.

Grammy-nominated Perla Batalla gave two free concerts inside Malibu Hall. Fans just had to pay for parking and make reservations.

The woman who gained fame as a backup singer for Leonard Cohen shared stories about touring, motherhood and her German and Mexican mixed heritage.

The concert was the brainchild of CI’s new part-time reference librarian Stephen Brogden. Brodgen has brought similar talent to Thousand Oaks.

He’d like to make nights like this one regular events.

A grant from an activities fund picked up the tab.
