Inaugural Black Genesis Event At CSUCI

California State University Channel Islands hosted its inaugural Black History Month festival called Black Genesis Saturday on CI’s North Quad.

CI’s vice president Dr.Gregory Sawyer said the festival celebrates the cultural richness on the campus and the accomplishments of all people of African descent.

A number of events organized by students and graduates focused on entertainment and education this month.

Performers included the musicians from the university and the Oxnard High School Jazz band.

African dance specialist Clydean Parker and the Umoja Ensemble of the Inland empire also performed and invited the audience to dance.
