Community Groups Take The Polar Plunge For Special Olympics Athletes

Special Olympics Santa Barbara hosted its 2nd annual “Polar Plunge” fundraiser event on Saturday at Leadbetter Beach.

Local businesses, law enforcement, firefighters, and community groups took a dip in the ocean to raise money for local Special Olympics athletes and programs.

The water temperature was about 65 degrees.

The Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office was the top fundraising team.

“We’ve been involved with the Special Olympics for a long time. We are a passionate office, an office that is athletic. Anytime anyone can have that experience, let alone someone who has other abilities, we are right behind them,” said District Attorney Joyce Dudley.

Firefighters from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department participated for the second year in a row.

“We have a lot of involvement in that program and I am really proud of our guys for coming out here today,” said Chief Eric Peterson.
