Lucia Mar Unified School District Avoids Potential Teachers Strike

The Lucia Mar Unified School District and the Lucia Mar Unified Teachers Association reached a tentative agreement over a pay increase for teachers.

An all-day mediation was held on Wednesday with teams representing both groups.

The terms of the new agreement would give teachers a 3% pay increase effective on April 1, 2015 and an additional 3% raise on January 1, 2016.

“Ultimately what this has been about is making this district better for our students,” said Donna Kandel, President of the Lucia Mar Unified Teachers Association.

The District also released a statement: “We are pleased to announce that we reached a tentative agreement. The terms of the agreement will now go to the teachers for a ratification vote, and then to the Board of Education for final approval.”

LMUTA members will go over the terms of this new offer at their next general meeting on Tuesday before officially voting.
