Santa Maria Broken Fire Hydrant

It is a sight that will make the parched, drought-weary south coast cringe. Just after 9 a.m. Friday a fire hydrant was knocked over in Santa Maria.

The incident happened on Bradley Road in front of the Applebee’s restaurant.

The 30 foot tower of water flowed for more than 15 minutes before it was shut off.

It sent a river of water down Bradley Road.

No word yet on how much water was lost or how the hydrant got knocked over.

There was a heavy duty construction vehicle parked nearby as part of work being done on the restaurant.
