Homeless Man Set On Fire In Ventura

Police are searching for three men who set a homeless man on fire in Ventura.

It happened Saturday night around 11 p.m. on the beach at South Seaward Avenue.

Police say the man was asleep in his sleeping bag on the beach near a retaining wall when the men poured lighter fluid on him and lit him on fire.

A passer-by said he saw flames 5 to 6 feet high and called police.

A good Samaritan used sand to put the fire out.

The 58-year-old victim, John Frazier, was taken to USC Medical Center with burns on 40 percent of his body, but he is expected to survive.

The suspects are described as three males in their late teens or early 20s with shaved heads.

Anyone with information on what happened or the suspects should call the Ventura Police Department at 805-339-4309.

There are several programs in Ventura County to give homeless men and women a safe place to sleep at night.
