Sheriff’s Deputies Arrest Two Suspects in Carpinteria
Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two known gang members from Ventura Monday night after an extensive manhunt. 30-year-old Martin Trujillo and 35-year-old Anthony Gomez were located in a lot of an apartment complex in Carpinteria.
The manhunt began when Gomez and Trujillo ran away from the 7-Eleven on the 4400 block of Via Real just after 4 p.m. Monday upon seeing Sheriff’s deputies arrive on the scene.
Further investigation revealed the suspects were driving a stolen silver Honda out of Ventura following a residential burglary. Both suspects had warrants out for their arrest.
Deputies set up a perimeter around that area and had a helicopter searching for the suspects. The California Highway Patrol assisted with the search as well as Sheriff’s K-9 units.
According to Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Spokesperson Kelly Hoover, at about 5:45 p.m. “a resident in the 4500 block of Carpinteria Avenue called to report that two suspicious males requested to use her phone.” Trujillo and Gomez were located soon after.
Trujillo was injured by a K-9 dog and a deputy received injuries while apprehending the suspect.
Trujillo was booked on the following charges:
Felony resisting arrest with injury
Possession of a stolen vehicle
possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Gomez was booked on the following charges:
Resisting arrest
Possession of a stolen vehicle
Both men are charged with a criminal gang enhancement.
The Sheriff’s office said a shotgun was found inside the stolen vehicle. The Ventura Police Department is conducting an investigation and additional charges against the suspects are pending.
